The Vineyard

The Leven Valley Vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines were first planted in 1997 by Steve and Diana Usher and they produced their first commercial vintage in 2001 under the Moonrakers label. In 2003 the label was changed to Leven Valley Vineyard reflecting the beautiful region and subsequent vintages have achieved multiple awards at the Hobart Wine Show.

In 2012 Wendy and Mike Dontschuk purchased the Leven Valley Vineyard. Their focus was on producing the best quality wines possible.  Their wines were hand made locally by Neil Colbeck with their assistance.

In early 2022 Terri and Trenton Seager purchased Leven Valley vineyard and are continuing the vineyard’s focus on nurturing the vines. Their hands on tending to the vines to produce the best result from each plant ensures that the vineyard provides the best quality grapes for wines produced with Shane Holloway and Fran Austin. They continue the tradition that vintages are hand picked by enthusiastic friends, generous Gunns Plains locals and ambitious volunteers.

The 1.5 hectares of vines are planted on a warm north facing slope of the Leven Valley Vineyard in Gunns Plains, North West Tasmania. The terroir expresses the deep red and black clay loams over limestone characteristic of this region. This location makes the Leven Valley Vineyard one of the latest ripening vineyard in Australia and produces fantastic cold climate characteristics in the wine. Small vintages are produced in keeping with the boutique approach of finding the true expression of the Terroir each season.
